How to clean and maintain different types of flooring

We know that there are many types of flooring available throughout Malaysia, all of which are used for house decoration, such as solid wood flooring, laminate flooring, and many more. But each of them needs a certain way of cleaning and maintenance work to be done. Let us share with you how to clean and maintain different types of flooring.

  1. The Laminate Floor Should Not Be Washed With Water

One of the advantages of laminate flooring is that it is easy to maintain. However, its base material is still made of wood, so the laminate floor should always be kept dry and clean and cannot be washed directly with water. The daily maintenance of the laminate floor can be done by vacuuming, followed by wiping with a semi-dry mop, and make sure to take all the measures to avoid accumulated water on the floor.

If the floor is stained with oil and dirt, it should be cleaned immediately. It is best to use a special floor cleaning and protection chemical that is suitable and gentle on the flooring.

  1. Avoids the Solid Wood Composite Floor Contact without Water

Generally speaking, the water resistance of solid wood composite floors is very poor, and it is advisable not to wipe with a damp cloth or water as this may cause tarnishing. This kind of flooring is relatively simple to take care of, where you just need to clean them with a cotton mop. If there is a stubborn stain, it can be wiped with a cotton mop and then with a neutral floor cleaner. In short, water is the main cause affecting the lifespan of parquet, so make sure to be extra careful when cleaning water.

  1. Bamboo Floor Will Get Mouldy When Come into Contact With Rainwater

Bamboo flooring is very environmentally friendly. Because it is made of natural materials, it is easily affected by the dryness and humidity of the climate. It is somewhat fragile and needs to be handle with care, such as frequent cleaning, to sustain long-term usability.

Firstly you have to use a clean broom to sweep away the dust and debris, and then manually wipe it with a rag that has been wrung out of water, followed by mopping. Remember, you should not wash with water or a damp rag or mop. Usually, if any liquid spilled on the floor, it should be wiped with a dry cloth immediately.

Alternatively, you may apply a few layers of floor wax at intervals to enhance the protection of the floor. If the paint surface is damaged, you can repair it with an ordinary varnish or call the manufacturer to repair it.

  1. The Solid Wood Floor Should Not Be Covered For a Very Long Duration

A solid wood flooring that does not undergo any adhesive chemicals production process is the most suitable for people who are sensitive toward formaldehyde. But this type of flooring is the most difficult to maintain compared to the rest of the flooring. To increase the lifespan of solid wood flooring, high maintenance is required.

Solid wood flooring is not suitable in rooms with high humidity. This type of flooring should be wiped frequently with dry cloths in case there’s any water droplets on it. In order to maintain its originality and increase its lifespan, waxing and maintenance are required twice a year.
